Our Birth Story-part7

While feeding Gideon our midwives asked me to choose a snack to replenish the energy I used bringing our son into the world. Like my night time snack for the last 2 months of my pregnancy I chose cereal. They made me a bowl of cereal and continued to clean up the house. They started loads of laundry and did the dishes we used throughout the night. After I finished feeding Gideon this strong feeling of needing to rest my eyes came over me. I passed him off to my sister who sat next to me on the couch and took a nap. When I woke the midwives were completing his newborn screenings and paperwork. It was so cool to watch them check him over on the couch beside us. Using a clothing hanging scale to weigh him. He weighed in at 6 lbs 13 ounces and measured 20.5 inches long. All 10 fingers and all 10 toes. Pure perfection.

They checked me over before packing the rest of their items into their cars. Babe woke up at 8:30 so my sister ran up to his room to bring him down. Little did he know while he peacefully slept just upstairs that his life was being changed with the addition of a little brother. The look on his face is something I’m forever thankful we caught on video. He was curious to touch him and sit beside him.

With some care instructions for both baby and I and a book to reference they were on their way around 9am.

I sat on our couch holding our son in the very place he was born just hours prior. The overwhelming feeling of gratitude for his life was all I felt when looking down at his sweet little face, his tiny body cradled in my arms. My entire world sat in our living room that morning.

And so our new life as a family of 4 began on June 8th 2023.🤍
